Oh Blog…How I Miss Thee

5 Sep

Another month long hiatus from the blog…  where does the time go…

With 6 WEEKS! left before maternity leave starts, there is so much to do and so little time. In between buttoning up things at work, going for TONS of doctor’s appointments, making sure we have everything we need for baby, finishing up stuff around the house, finalizing day care options (which I’ve totally procrastinated on), and just trying to prepare myself as best I can for all the impending life changes that are about to occur, I still want to keep this little blog afloat. So even though posting may be sparse, rest assured that at some point, pregnancy/nursery/baby updates will eventually get done!

In any case, here’s a sneak peak of what I’ve been up to:

Hope to find some time soon to elaborate on all this and more soon! 😉

Weeks 24 to 26

6 Aug

Ahhhh! I’ve been away for a whole month and still have updates to catch up on!

Things have been crazy over here, which is why the long absence… Long hours at work, unexpected news, lots of stuff to get done around the house – it all doesn’t leave that much room for blogging.

This update will be quick since lucky for me Weeks 24 to 26 were relatively uneventful. I guess you could say it was the lull before the storm that was Week 27 which I need to do an entire post on.

The highlights of Weeks 24 through 26:

  • A few much needed days off during the 4th of July holiday.
  • A successful garage sale where we got rid of LOTS of stuff from the garage. Garage sales are a lot of work! I took a lot of time to make sure that our stuff was organized and mostly priced before we got started to make the day of set up easier. I think it paid off in the end.

  • We had some trees cut in our backyard after a tree branch unexpectedly fell. I loved the woodsy feel of all the tress, but having it this way is safer (and will help our plants grow with the extra sunlight.)

  • The Hubs cleaned out the nursery of the extra stuff that was still in there.
  • The arrival of our nursery furniture (minus a few hiccups of getting TWO, count them TWO Munire dressers that had drawers broken in them. Awaiting our third dresser this week!)

  • A great doctor’s appointment were everything was still status quo in the baby department. Weight gain good, heartbeat sounded great, urine sample perfect – everything right on track…for now…

Here are the belly shots form Weeks 24 and 26. I missed week 25, but I don’t think you all missed much in the growth department! hehe 🙂

Hopefully I can write more soon and articulate the crappiness that was Week 27 without sound selfish and petty. I also never finished a post on the finishing touches I put on our bedroom, as well as the fun stuff I purchased for the nursery.

TGIF!!

1 Jun

I’ve definitely got more weekly pregnancy posts in my drafts folder, but I haven’t had time to add all of the weekly bump pics (which aren’t that flattering, so I shouldn’t care too much about them, but I’m nostalgic!).

Work has been SUPER crazy with zero down time. So I’ve been up at 5:40am and at work till 5:30pm. Yesterday I got home at 6:15pm, wasn’t hungry since I ate lunch late, and proceeded to fall asleep in a very uncomfortable position on a chair. The Hubs woke me up and showed me to our bed (sounds sexier than it was, I promise!). I had to take a shower first so I went through the motions and was in bed by 7:15pm. The Hubs ended up going to bed early too! Guess that’s what having no TV will do for you (that’s an update for another post!).

This morning again I was up at 5:00am and at work by 6:00am. I’ll probably be here till 5:30pm again. Ugh.

I did have a yummy Mexican pizza lunch made by The Hubs and topped it off with this wonderful goodness…

For someone VERY concerned about weight gain and staying on track (currently +1-2 lbs over what the charts say I “should” be at), I shouldn’t have done it, but it just looked too good to pass up. I’d also heard SUCH great things about the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappacino I had to try it. It was delish – especially the chocolate whip cream! I will have to avoid any more sweets the rest of the day and try to find energy to walk The Pup later to make up for it!

For now, I’m going to try hard to get through the rest of today and then ENJOY the weekend. Can’t wait till next week though when I only have to work 4 days! We’re off to one of our favorite places, San Luis Obispo, to see my little sister graduate! YAY!

More posts next week hopefully. Maybe I’ll even be up to date on my bump-dates so you can hear all about our BIG ultrasound next week (although it probably won’t be the BIG update you all are waiting for)! hehe 🙂

Here I Am!!

16 May

Wow! Has it been almost 4 months since my last post??? I can’t believe it!

Things have been so crazy busy with life and work that blogging sorta slipped by the way side. I will say that I have at least a few posts in draft form that are pretty much done, so I hope to be posting on a more regular basis when I can.

Here’s what you’ve missed (which hasn’t been much, but that doesn’t make it insignificant!):

The Hubs and I went to Vegas the last weekend in January. It was our big trip to see Garth Brooks and Brad Paisley! I’m proud to say that I made it through both flights with less anxiety than I’ve had in the past, although I must admit I had to take 1 Xanax on the return flight home.

We really had a great time! We had friends who were also in Vegas that weekend so we hung out with them some of the time as well. We stayed at the Mirage, which was my first time. I really liked it and think it will be my Vegas hotel of choice from now on! It is really nice without feeling stuffy and there are lots of great options for food right there. It was all decked out for Chinese New Year which made the lobby area really beautiful!

We did some walking down the strip…

And hanging out…

Our first big outing was to see Garth Brooks. Garth was absolutely positively amazing. TOTALLY work the $250 / person tickets. It was just him and his guitar. He sounded just like a record. The Hubs and I kept turning to each other commenting on how awesome it was the entire time! We vowed that if there were ever an artist like Garth that is someone we truly LOVE, we WILL spend the extra money and get good tickets. It was so worth it! We could’t take pictures, but I snuck a quick one so you get the gist of what we saw (minus Garth!).

The next day, our friends wanted to go see the Pawn Stars shop. I had never seen the show, but figured I could at least say I’d been there. The line to get in was super long, but once inside there was a lot of cool stuff to look at.

We went to the Minus 5 Bar which was a cool experience! We took some really cute pictures in our parkas and taking shots off of a ski, but I was too lazy and forgot to purchase them online!

The Brad Paisley concert was Saturday night at Mandalay Bay – all the way on the other side of the strip. It took us FOREVER to walk there and the monorail was NOT convenient either. We finally made it there in time to see The Band Perry (who was just ok live) and Scotty McCreery (who was pretty good) open.  Brad Paisley put on a great show (although our standards were set crazy high from the Garth concert the night before). He definitely was worth it though! His concert reminded me of a Keith Urban concert, which I always think is a fun concert to attend. We really enjoyed hearing all of our favorite songs, including “Then”, our first dance song!

The last day brought about a little more excitement… While walking from the elevators toward the lobby at 7:30am, I saw this blond girl in a mini dress with white slippers walking (well more like stumbling) toward the elevator bay with a guy. I looked at the girl and said to The Hubs under my breath, “Was that Paris Hilton??”. The girl must of heard me because the next thing I know she turned around and says to me, “Yes it is!”. I was so excited to have a celebrity encounter, even if it was only a split second!

We SO enjoyed our Vegas trip and hoped to go back really soon (especially to see and hang out by the Mirage pool when it was actually full), but we had another big event happen in our lives just a few weeks later:

Holy crap! Can you believe it? We’re pregnant! I’ve got a whole bunch of drafts to finish up our TTC story and then the start of our pregnancy story.

So stay tuned (unless of course pregnancy stuff makes you cringe or sad… I can totally relate and totally understand!).

Kindle Reads – “Living Your Yoga” – Part 1b

You can find the introduction to this series of posts here.

The final three qualities of finding more awareness in your own life by “Living Your Yoga” are described here.

Faith Practice

This section discusses the importance of having faith – faith in yourself and faith that things will work out as they should.  My faith definitely wavers especially when things don’t work out the way that I expect them to. A quote that really spoke to me on this concept was “belief is a preconception about the way reality should be; faith is the willingness to experience reality as it is, including the acceptance of the unknown.” This one sentence pretty much sums up how I would like to live, although most of the time my preconceptions get in the way. To practice faith, we have to make decisions in connection with our hearts. My favorite mantra from this section was “I have the courage to act from my heart and the compassion to stay open.”

Perspective Practice

This section calls each of us to broaden our perspective and to explore other points of view. Wisdom is really just the clarity of perspective, stepping back and seeing the big picture. You know they say hindsight is 20/20, but perhaps if we are willing to look through a different lens, we can really see what is important and what is not, we can avoid pitfalls or curb negative reactions we may have.  “Your life is as it is. How you feel about your life is up to you.” Ways to practice perspective are to cultivate gratitude (which I’ve been trying to do weekly in Thankful Thursday posts) and to purposefully make a point to look at a situation from a different perspective. My favorite mantra from this section was “It won’t be this way forever.

Courage Practice

According to Judith Lasater, she believe that next to love, courage is the second most important quality to cultivate.  It is knowing when to ask for help, listening to your heart.  To strengthen your courage, practice a yoga pose that you are afraid of. For me that might be a backbend or flipping over from a three legged dog. I can take small steps to work towards each of these poses, having compassion with myself at however far I can get. I need to not do something just because it is scary, “the point is to choose to do what is possible in the face of fear. That choice defines courage. And with it comes a sense of freedom.” My favorite mantra from this section, “Letting go of what I cannot change celebrates my courage.”

Do you feel that you live your life in awareness?

What areas do you think you can work on on a daily basis?

Well that explains it…

About half way through my crap week and realized huh Friday, January 13th… ugh… FRIDAY the 13th

Maybe that explains all the crap that has happened since last Friday. A whole week of crappiness to culminate with the feast holiday of bad luck! I wish I could stay in bed all day today to avoid any pitfalls I might encounter to end this week off even worse than it started, but no can do with meetings planned all day.

Now I’m not normally that superstitious, but I’m sorta hoping that with the coming and going of this “dreaded” day that my luck turns around. I guess I’ll have to wait till next week to find out!

Are you superstitious about Friday the 13th?

Crap Week and It’s only Wednesday

11 Jan

This week has been less then stellar. You’ll probably see the remnants of it on the blog sometime in the future, but I’m blogging about this part of my life in somewhat of an order so it will come in time…

I’ve been trying to think about the posts where I write to all of you about staying positive, living in the present moment, and trying not to worry about the future and things I can’t control. I need to be appreciative of the things I have and not the things I have not. I need to stop comparing myself to others and try to match what they are doing step for step. There are things I can’t control and thus things can’t move at the pace I want them to move at, but again I CAN”T CONTROL IT! I’m not sure how to get that through my thick skull!

The culmination of it all was when The Pup decided that he wanted my freshly made pulled pork sandwich last night more than I did. It was the last straw! The Hubs came to the rescue though with pizza and wine, the perfect combo!56

Lucky for me, I think I’ve cried all the tears I can muster for one week in the last two days, so I’m hoping to give my eyes a break over the next few days and then fully enjoy the unseasonable warm weather we are sure to have in the Bay this weekend.

I am excited about a planning meeting I have tonight about a high school mentorship program called ACE. The program is all about  getting high school students interested in Architecture, Construction & Engineering. Although I’m not technically in the construction field (the types of engineering that this organization is promoting), I love talking and working with students so I think it is going to be a fun few months. In other news, I’ve convinced The Hubs, who does work in the ACE fields, to mentor with me! I think it will be a fun bonding experience! I really hope he enjoys it! 🙂 At least it’s something to look forward too and take my mind off other things!

In other news, I’m really super excited about the new lunch bag I got at Costco over the weekend! It so colorful and keeps my food nice and cold without having to put in the fridge. Oh and it comes with a cute little case to carry silverware in. It’s amazing how a new lunch bag makes me excited about packing my lunch and it’s kept me diligent in bringing silverware to work (which is better for the environment!).

Isn’t it cute!!

Hope you all are having a better week than I am (although that isn’t saying much!) 🙂
